         The opening ceremony of National Exchange Conference on Chinese Festivals was held grandly on the morning of September 14, during which Water-Splashing Festival and Muzaozongge Festival from Dehong drew lots of attention and were granted the “Brilliant Achievement Award”.

  Themed with “reforming, transforming, improving, summing up experience and making direction clear”, the conference is intended to sum up experience on holding regional festivals, probe into problems and situations facing the current Chinese festivals, and make a clear direction for future efforts. Hundreds of representatives from all over the country gathered together to discuss key questions such as why to hold festivals, for whom the festivals are held , whether the governments are allowed to hold festivals and so on.

  After the exchange and discussion, representatives reached an agreement that when holding festivals we should be thrifty, cater to the demands of common people, aim at the advertisement of special industries, pay more attention to the scientific and sustainable developments of festivals.

  The first session of China festival commodities fair was held simultaneously. Ethnic costumes, jade products, festival souvenirs, etc exhibited by Dehong attracted lots of attention by their unique and abundant culture deposits. At last, Water-Splashing Festival and Muzaozongge Festival, both of which are local festivals of Dehong, were granted the “Brilliant Achievement Award”, the highest level award of the conference, for their significant role in local political, economic, and cultural developments as well as their outstanding contributions to the practices and researches concerning modern Chinese festivals.
