      China-Myanmar Pauk-Phaw Carnival is jointly held by Ruili Municipal Government and Mujie City of Myanmar under the auspices of Yunnan Provincial Government and the Myanmar Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. The annual event, stage from May 2-5 in Ruili City, has its unique form of organization and many wonderful performances. People of China and Myanmar participate in it with great enthusiasm. It also draws strong interests and wide attentions from both Chinese and foreign tourists. The carnival comes to the fore among the numerous festivals nationwide and becomes an increasingly known brand in China, even in the world.

      The word “pauk-phaw means brother in Myanmese. In the past 50 years, the brotherhood between border inhabitants of the two countries was strengthened continuously. In order to further enhance brotherhood, promote cultures of the two countries and present their splendid folk arts, the two countries agree to hold a China-Myanmar Pauk-Phaw Carnival each year with the theme of “peace, development, auspiciousness, and joint happiness.” During the carnival, the two countries dispatch players to give performances and border inhabitants can go in and out freely. In addition, officials of the two countries will turn up to watch performances. Every pauk-phaw attracts hundreds of journalists and tens of thousands of tourists. They are all filled with great admiration for Ruili City’s unique geological location, the brotherhood dear to each other as members of the same family between border inhabitants of the two countries, their good coordination and the wonderful performances in the carnival.

  Many activities in the pauk-phaw carnival have become more and more excellent. The competition for Miss Ruilijiang, previously confined to Ruili City, now draws candidates nationwide. Beauties from different regions of China gather in Ruili, which adds luster to the carnival. It is now well known at every corner of China and Myanmar, and appeal greatly to tourists. Statistics show that the number of visitors to the carnival grows sharply during the festival each year.

  The China-Myanmar Pauk-Phaw Carnival has enhanced the friendship between the people of the two countries and made great contributions to tourism and economic take-off of Ruili City and Myanmar.
