Mangshi Hosts 219.6 Thousand Tourists from Home and Abroad during the Water Spla

  The 2017 Water Splashing Carnival in Dehong comes to a close on April 13. According to the official statistics offered by Mangshi Tourism Bureau, during the carnival which spans from April 11 to April 13, Manghsi hosts 219.6 tourists from home and abroad, with 86 thousand of them being overnight visitors and 132.29 thousand being day-trippers. The tourism revenue totals 286.15 million yuan.

  A serious of events are held including the flower-picking activities which involves thousands of people, promotion event targeted for “One Belt and One Road Initiative in Dehong”, the release ceremony of a book in honor of Wan Xiaosan (known as Peacock Princess) , an activity to experience the delicacies of ethnic flavor, the opening ceremony, hilarious splashing of water, the concert of the local Dai-ethnic singer Jin Xiaofeng and the closing ceremony in which the costumes of Dai ethnic groups in Dehong are displayed. The colorful and splendid events showcase the charming ethnic customs and profound ethnic culture of Dehong in an all-around way, demonstrating the diligence, bravery, persistence and innovation of the people from various ethnic groups in the border area.

  Zhang Lin and her family from Shandong Province make appointment with friends to gather in Dehong to experience the carnival. “With all rooms in hotels reserved, we have to live in friends’ home. This is my first Water Splashing Festival. I'm delighted. I'll invite more relatives and friends to the carnival next year.” By the time she reaches Mangshi Square, Zhang Lin is wet through. Holding a bucket in hand, she exchanges blessings with others by splashing water.
